01/02/07. Terrific Tuesday VRB Games. Solon’s House, Moore
Lake LTF. Court 15. 1900-2100. The first night of
VRB games for the New Year 2007. Can the Golden Tricycle Champion Big Dan Lefty
defends his newly minted and newly deservedly won GT from last Thunderous
Thursday Double Elimination GT Tournament of Champions? The pundits shake their
collective heads and said, "We think not, MM seems to have Big Dan Lefty’s
number for the past month." We’ll see, let the games being!
In game number one, Big Dan Lefty
quieted the VRB pundits with a lefty firework display of front court setups
wizardry and back court getting magic for a dominating win of 11-5 over MM!
Big DL 11, MM 5
Big Dan Lefty puts his big right pointy finger to his lips in
the directions of the VRB pundits sitting in the front row:
Shssssst!!!!
Big DL’s game number one victory quieted the VRB pundits and
put an exclamation mark on his GT defense!
In game number two, MM blasted
photon deep passes and ran Big DL around like an elementary kid at recess,
except this was one big kid with tremendous reach! Big DL made some fabulous
gets, but he was not able to generate any offensive momentum in the face of MM’s
blitzkrieg offensive attacks! MM’s deep lobs and missile passes led to an 11-6
victory. MM 11, Big DL 6.
In game number three, Big DL
unleashed the full fury of his getting and rekill game to devastating effects on
MM’s return game and Big DL shoots and gets to win easily 11-3!!
Big DL 11, MM 3.
In game number four, MM seems to
have all of the momentum in the even numbered games in this series! MM’s deep
serves and shots resulted in an 11-6 victory and a fifth game tiebreaker here we
come VRB folks! Big Joel Warrior exclaims, "I’m going to pull up a chair and
watch this fun match!" MM 11, Big DL 6.
In the fifth game tiebreaker, MM got
the early momentum with several deep rips and two flat front court pinches to go
up 4-1 and 4-2. Big DL turned it up another notch and tied it up at 4-4. The two
racquetball warriors pounded each other senseless with ballistic photon passes
and incredible gets for a dynamic 8-8 tie!
MM went up 9-8 after a tough multiple shots rally where MM
astutely worked the rally and pulled the big man DL deep with deep missile
passes and then a low splat and then a pass winner! Vintage high percentage from
MM that Fran Davis would be very proud of indeed! The VRB fans all stood up for
the final curtain calls, even Big JW remained standing!
The next rally was key and it was a fast paced one. Big DL
ripped a low heater deep pass, MM got to it and hammered his own scorching deep
pass, Big DL got to it and poke it up front, MM winds up and pokes a SKIP!!!!
Ugggh!!! Big JW laughed hysterically in the front row seats and pointed at MM,
"That’s what you get for poking!" Big DL finished matter quickly with two photon
blast low serves and front court killshots to win 11-9!
Big DL 11, MM 9.
VRB fans (All standing and giving a standing ovation!):
Congrats Big DL! Big DL is still the Golden Tricycle Champion!
Other Games:

MM 11, Fireball Mark 6.
MM 11, Joel Warrior 7….Z-lobs to the right abyss practice
game.
Crowder Steve Righty beats FM and JW.
FM defeats JW on another New Brighton Channel 23 UWF B-Champs
Games night!
Who will win the GT on Thunderous Thursday? Another Double
Elimination in store VRB folks…Will Big DL has enough stamina and games in the
tank to defeats all comers by 10:30pm to retain or win/defends the GT outright?!
We shall see VRB folks!
FM: The way I see it, I don’t think
I could win the GT with three A-players in my way.
MM: Not true Fireball because Double
Elimination could be advantageous to a lower rank player because if for example,
I take out John Wilinski and Big Dan Lefty takes me out, and Fireball, you takes
out Uma Righty and Joel Warrior, then you definitely have a good chance at
winning the Golden Tricycle from Big DL because Big DL is a runner, not a
shooter like me, which means his game style is kinder to lower rated players.
FM: Aaah! I see! If I win the GT,
I’m going to to soup it up!
MM (smiles).
Joel Warrior (grins).
Sidenote: Where is the rooky Justin
Righty? Is he on another work project? When will it ever ends? Ya know, those
Egyptians told the Israelites that once they built one pyramid, they can go
home, well….You know how that story ended…..
Sidenote #2: The Coon Rapids
LifeTime Fitness Pro and Women’s Open player Stacy Holland may join us for
Thunderous Thursday Double Elimination Night as a Wild Card…She told MM that she
went to play at Central Courts and got food poisoning! Ummmh!??
Sidenote #3: The first major
snowstorm last weekend gave all of us a nice white New Year!
