03/17/07. Super Saturday VRB Match: Big DL vs. Doc MM. Scratch Auditorium, Moore Lake LTF. Court 6. 1430-1545.

Format: Best out of three games, first two games up to 15, tiebreaker up to 11, don’t have to win by 2 points.

Doc MM came out flat in the first game and Big DL’s punishing front court killshots and zooming deep passes were too much. It didn’t help that Doc MM double faulted twice. Big DL takes a big early lead of 9-1 and never looked back. Big DL 15, Doc MM 4.

In game number two, Doc MM finally got his offense warmed up and blasted winners left and right for an early 6-2 lead. Big DL turned on his offensive machinery with deep missile rips and lethal front court reverse pinch killshots to tie it all up at 14-14. However at 14-14, Big DL crushed a photon drive ace and game? No, Big DL called a foot fault on himself! Wow! What a fair man! Doc MM won the next rally and then served and shoots a down the line succinct backhand pass down the left sidewall to win 15-14 to take this to a tiebreaker! Doc MM 15, Big DL 14.

In the tiebreaker, it was Big DL from beginning to end with deep serves and deep shots to pin Doc MM deep and Big DL rolled out front court shots like hot cakes at a birthday party to win easily 11-2. Big DL 11, Doc MM 2.

Cindy Kitchen: What happened Doc MM?

Doc MM: Two things happened CK, first, Big DL played extremely well and second, I was flat, a combination that I can’t overcome on a Saturday afternoon. I will go buy some Aleve cold and sinuses like Big DL recommends and I’ll be ready for another showdown in the TC Tuesday night at Moore Lake.
