Attacking Doubles Formations
Attack
"I"
Formation
- Move the back court player until he is exhausted and you will have
take the edge off his offensive game.
- Serve to the front court coverer and shoot the first ball before he
can rush into front court.
- Kill the ball hard and low into the middle, leaving no chance for
your opponents to make an effective return.
- Use ceiling balls to force one player into the back left corner
until he makes a weak return, then shoot whichever corner his partner
has left uncovered.
Attack Side by Side Formation
- Draw them up front and rip down the line passes right pass them,
because there is no one to pick up the slack.
- Draw the partner covering the backhand side up front and pound them
unmercifully with pure and wide angled drives.
- Isolate on your opponent and avoid hitting shots to them for long
periods of time to keep them cold and rusty. This will negatively affect
their timing. Eventually the isolated player will become so desperate to
hit the ball that he will have a tendency to poach into his partner’s
territory. This causes a breakdown in teamwork and that’s spell double
trouble for your opponents.
Best by Test?
The modified Diagonal Defense is the best for doubles coverage
because it allows the left side player to protect himself by playing
back slightly yet leaves the right player to stay up to cover for most
kill shots to the front right corner.
