Hit every shot from one position
This drill because it adds variety to the perfect planned practices. Map
out nine positions all over the court to hit different shots from each
position and
relocate after each shot. This adds an element of creative shooting to
your game and increases aerobic stamina.
In a real game situation, the opposition is hard press to just cover
two or three shots, because McClayson can hit over six shots from each
position and thus diversifying his offensive and defensive attacks and
keeping his opponents honest in their coverage; preventing them from
shading to one side or the other too much to anticipate McClayson’s
Sunday Shots.*
*Sunday Shot: A player’s favorite shot or shots from a particular
position on the court. For example, for JW, it’s his down the line
backhand rip from deep left corner. For MC, it’s his photon splat from
mid court on the forehand stroke.
Short Ceiling and Rip
Practice the continuous
drill of hitting short ceiling balls and ripping low winners on both wings and
relocating after each shots.
Back Corner Pick Up
This drill is designed for players with
little or no wrist snap and who have troubles digging the ball out of the back corners. Stand
facing either back corner. Gently toss the ball into the corner so that
it hits the back wall, sidewall, and floor in that sequence. Start with
a toss about four feet high and work down to one foot.
At the one foot
level the only way the ball will get to the front wall is with a strong
wrist snap. This wrist snap motion should feel very much like the wrist
does when you hit a nail with a hammer.
