Stroke Drills

Racquetball is played from the ground up, with the lower body and especially the legs. Try to go over the stroke mechanic basics prior to drilling. Pay attention to each step and why it is important.

The racquetball stroke starts with the knee bends. Do not bend at the waist. Then ERP, eyes on the ball, front foot plant, and back foot launches into the shot, upper body follows lower body, hit the ball flat and level with a level body motion, and a complete follow through, relocate to center court for coverage and watch for your opponent.

Maximum Resistance Shadow Drill

Equipment – Use an old racquetball racquet. Tape up the entire racquet head or string area. Simply apply strong masking tape over the frame and net area to create a solid maximum resistance racquet. Also, a mirror will help you to keep an eye on proper stoke mechanics (optional).

Ten complete stroke repetition without ball. During every attempt, work on planting your front foot and launching your back foot. Swing flat, level and with a complete follow through. Do this at a normal pace. Do not hurry. Be relaxed and calm. Play from within yourself.
