Advanced Errors
x
Panicky backwall error
This error is
basically of a mental and preparation nature. The typical amateur is
anxious over having the opportunity to shoot aggressively off of the
backwall. While the advanced player sees it as a golden opportunity to
hit a high percentage shot to control a rally or if the setup is big
enough, to end the point.
The amateur player needs to change their mental
attitude towards the backwall ball as one of a difficult chore to one of
it being an advantageous opportunity to hit a high percentage shot and
possibly rally ending shot.
With the backwall ball, you do have
more than enough time if you prepare properly to shoot the ball. This
entails reading the ball’s entire path to recognize whether or not that
ball is actually going to come off of the backwall.
If the ball is coming off of the backwall, then get
quickly into position behind the estimated two bounce area for an
effective stride into the shot, ERP, eyes still on the ball, using hand
or racquet to feel for the walls, stay level and low throughout the
entire sequence from the read to relocation to center court.
Preparation
and a positive mental attitude towards the opportunistic backwall ball
are keys to hitting effective high percentage shots off of these types
of setups.
An important side note: remember that when the ball
comes off of the backwall, it will slant slightly towards the floor
because of constant effect of gravity pulling down on the ball at
9.8m/second squared.
