My down the line passes are not
staying down the line? Why is that?
It could be your footwork, let’s take a
look. If you are shooting a forehand down the line pass, then you would step
straight ahead (given that you had enough time for proper weight transfer into
the shot). On your backhand, you would step at about a 45 degree angle towards
the sidewall.
If you step at a 45 degree angle towards the
sidewall on your forehand (or even a half a step towards the sidewall) then you
would have compromised your forehand stroke by being too close to your contact
point.

I can hit a good passing shot, but I
can’t hit a good pinch if my life depended on it!? Why? Why? Why is this so? It
can’t be this hard to hit a decent pinch!?
Trust me when I say that I understand your
frustration, because I have been there and done it. I played racquetball for the
first five years without a viable pinch game and it sucked rotten eggs to watch
my opponents just sit in zone coverage all day long and pick off my passes -
without having to worry about playing the front court at all.
I have done a lot of studying, observing and
on court solo experimentations and came to two definite conclusions:
1. A common subtle stroke error for most
amateurs is that they stroke the pinch differently from the pass. This should
not be the case at all! I suggest hitting your pinch with the same stroke
mechanic as you would hit your passing shots. The only thing that you would vary
is your contact point, which is farther back on your pinches.
