Incomplete understanding of the game
Many
players feel that if they could only kill the ball consistently, they
would always win. This only holds true for playing against a weaker
opponent. Against an opponent of better or equal ability, the serve is
the only time that a setup can be guaranteed. In reality, play affords
few setups, and without competent coverage skills, play can be
frustrating.
Perception gap
Occurs when the player repeat
the same mistake because the problem has not been identified. Another
perception lag is the persistence of not watching the ball. There are
plenty of other examples, but the bottom line is the need to pay
attention to EVERYTHING on the court.
Make a conscious note about your
opponent's habit, your own inconsistencies on that given day, the speed
off the walls and other physical quirks about the court. Racquetball is
a game of constant read and adjust. It is a volatile dynamic that
demands conscious perception: learn to read the situation and use it to
your advantage.
