Correcting errors
Z serves

  • Hard Z-serve does not "Z" off side wall: Serve must be hit hard. Keep working on your power. Move your body toward the corner when serving. Use an upright swing with racquet close to body.

  • Hard Z-serve lands in front of short service line: Serve must hit in corner 3 to 4 feet high. Serve must be hit hard.

  • Hard Z-serve has correct action, but is not deep enough: Ball must contact front wall farther from corner. Server is too close to the sidewall when contacting the serve. Start serve closer to the midline of court. Experiment with different starting positions.

  • Soft Z-serve does not get deep enough: Serve should contact wall farther from corner. The correct distance is 2 to 4 feet, depending upon the server’s position. Serve from a position closer to the midline of the service area. The serve should strike the front wall within 3 to 4 feet of the ceiling.

  • Soft Z-serve rebounds out into the court for easy return: Serve must be hit softly so it dies in corner.
