  • You have troubles thinking positive thoughts: When you have a negative thought about your skill, try to think of a weakness of your opponent in a similar area. For example, if you have trouble returning a power serve to your backhand, think about how weak your opponent’s backhand returns are. This helps you realize that everyone has weaknesses and that you can still win points in spite of your weakness.

  • You tend to give up when your opponent is way ahead: Try to set short range goals. You can’t score until you get the serve. Set a goal of taking the serve away. Set a goal of scoring tow or three points in a row. You can’t score 15 points at a once-you score them one at a time. Short range goals will help you try harder on each point. If your opponent is way ahead in the first game, try to score as many points as possible while using shots that will tire out your opponent for the following games.
