Quick Racquet: The ability to swing your racquet through the ball very fast; used most often in center court play.

Rabbit: A player who is an exceptionally good retriever.

Rally: The exchange, the playing of alternating shots.

Racquetball: A court game that is identical to handball but utilizes a short racquet and a larger, softer ball.

Relative Eye Height: Basically means that the racquetball player need to use his eyes correctly and eyed the ball until it drops lower than her knees for a high percentage shot. This goes back to extending your visual distance to a racquet/ball contact point for maximum racquet extension.

Read: The important skill of top level players to anticipate their opponent’s shots by watching them hit the ball.

Ready Position: The body position or stance a player assumes while waiting to make a return of the serve or a shot during play.

Receiver: The player receiving the service.

Receiving Line: The line five feet back of and parallel to the short line. It is marked by three inch vertical lines on the sidewall.

Receiving Zone: The area of the racquetball court that extends from the rear wall to the receiving line.

Referee: The individual who officiates the match.

Reflex Swing: Used when the ball comes quickly into center court and forces you to react instinctively as you swing at the ball.

Rest Period: The intervals of rest during and between games taken in accordance with the rules.

Restraining Line: See Five Foot Line.

Reverse Backwall Shot: A shot that hits the backwall with enough force to carry to the front wall before the bounce.

Reverse Ceiling Shot: A ceiling shot where the ball hits the front wall before it hits the ceiling.

Reverse Pinch Shot: A kill shot that hits the front wall, then the sidewall, then the floor. See Front Wall to Sidewall Kill Shot.

Rip Factor: To hit a ball with a complete confidence and follow through. If you can do this with aplomb, your opponents will R.I.P. or Rest In Peace.

Rollout: a kill shot that hits the absolute lowest point on the front wall.

Rotation Formation: A system of doubles play in which the methods of doubles strategy and position are determined by the flow of the rally.
