Practice = Wins

If you want to win tournaments, you must constantly practice every parts of your game, especially your drive serve at the amateur level. If you can get the ball consistently into the deep corners with two bounces, no matter how hard you hit the ball, your opponent has to move, stretch and then hit.

This results in a lot of third shot opportunities for you. You might have to take some pace off your drive serve to time your hit correctly for a two bounces deep drive.

Improvement Drill

If you want to get real good at this game, then you need to do the following drill. Have a server stand in the box and hit some slow paced 3 foot passes to you. Practice hitting passes, pinches and ceiling balls from deep court. It looks easy, but it’s tougher than you might think folks.

No Step Drive Serve

If you are having problems with the timing and hitting the correct frontwall targets, then try the No Step Drive Serve method.

Just stand in your forehand stroke stance, drop the ball and hit a forehand pass from the service box. I use this technique for controlled medium paced two bounces drive serve into the deep corner when my drive serve is off.

It will not going fast at all, but the low height and the deep angle into the corner forces my opponent to move, stretch and hit. That’s putting a lot of pressure on them to execute their return, while I’m standing in the center of the court waiting for my third shot opportunities.

And believe it or not Marcus, my old man’s snail-paced 60 mph slow pitch has gotten me plenty of easy points when I most needed them in tough matches!
