Pinch Away
At the higher level of racquetball, you need to hit more pinches
because it forces your opponent out of his comfort pass zone coverage. Even if you miss a pinch, your opponent still needs to deal with the
awkward angle of the ball coming off the sidewall and the pinch shot constantly
forces him to run forward to cover, and leaving him vulnerable to the high
percentage pass.
In responding to the passing game, Keil
notes that it has its valid points, but mixing it up equates with high
percentage racquetball. A good pinch will open up your passing game and force
your opponent to constantly run forward and dig out balls in the front court
area.
A pass is good as long as it doesn’t come
off the backwall. If it does come off the backwall, it’s actually worst than a
badly hit pinch shot, because there’s no awkward sidewall angle that your
opponent needs to deal with. Pinch away!
Hint: If you want to increase your
speed in racquetball, play badminton!!
