Pro Corner Q & A:  Mike Locker

3. I think it really hurt the sport when club owners decided to eliminate a Programs Coordinator/Club Teaching Pro for racquetball. Back in the day, leagues were huge by promotion of the Club Pro. Then as time passed, club owners realized that the racquetball players are now hooked, I can save x-amount of dollars per year by eliminating my pro’s salary and I will continue to have my core of league players.

Well as we all know, the focus to try to create and implement new programs for the racquetball member have gone bye-bye as so has the participation and or enthusiasm.

Who is to run junior development programs? Who is to offer all new members and introductory racquetball lesson? Who is to recruit or attract racquetball players into your facility?

Unfortunately now that membership fees are through the roof, a club owner can offer the average racquetball player a complimentary membership in exchange for their time!

MM:    What do you love about playing racquetball?

ML:
More than anything it was all the great friendships that I have accrued over the years from all across the
world. Racquetball is one of the best workouts you can do and offers intense competition rather than riding a life cycle or something of that nature. Eliminates total boredom of having to go and just workout!
