McClayson Interview
Part Deux

Is there more to Doc McClayson
than just racquetball and more racquetball??

Cindy Kitchen: Doc, what would you say would be the two keys to improving in racquetball?

Doc MM: Cindy, I would say, it would have to be Love and the ability to Analyze your own games and learn from them. I see a lot of players, I won’t mention any names, that make the same mistakes over and over and over and they don’t do anything to correct them and that’s why these certain players plateau out at their respective levels.

CK: We’ve heard that you took some major Donut beatings from some very good ‘A’ players, how did you feel? And what did you do to improve yourself afterward?

MM: I didn’t feel bad or good or whatever, I had no emotions either ways, I took the losses in strides and went back to the drawing board and made a careful analysis of what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. I like the entire process of playing for the great exercise and competition and then the excellent analytical process afterward.

CK: So, you’re saying that losing can actually be better than winning because you can actually learn more from the losing efforts?

MM: Most definitely Cindy darling, if you think what I have on the website is a lot of racquetball information, you haven’t seen my handwritten notes on why I lost certain games and matches, and I have over 20 filled notebooks of my analysis. The website is just the tip of the iceberg of my racquetball journey that I enjoy sharing with my fellow racquetball athletes.
