CK: Oh (smiles). Now, what
do you mean that you were disappointed in the way the Vikes lost last
night?
Doc MM: The Vikes have all
of these talented athletes and they played the Eagles straight up last
night. I mean, I would have designed plays for Onterrior Smith,
Culpepper and Randy Moss to mess with the Eagles over-blitzing defense.
Simply said, I would establish the fast ball and then mix it up and have
some fun.
CK: Please explain what you
mean by Establishing the Fast Ball?
Doc MM: It’s like
racquetball Cindy. I’m going in there to Establish my Game. When I’m
on the offense, I will keep the defense on its toes with deep corner
lobs and drives.
Once I get the defense stretched to both corners and
have them leaning, I throw in the jams, the wraps, Z-serves, and other
devious tricky service formations to continue to keep the defense on
their toes.
So, in last night's game, I would have designed specific plays
for Randy Moss for more medium distance slanting patterns for Culpepper
to throw to a super mobile Moss on the run to take full advantage of
Moss’s speed over the cornerbacks.
I mean, come on’ Moss’s one fast
athlete and you have him going out on long patterns when Culpepper is
being rushed, that’s just not good football strategy.
CK: What would do for
Culpepper?
Doc MM: Daunte Culpepper’s
another tremendous talent on the Minnesota Vikings and they didn’t
utilize him to the max last night. The Eagles were blitzing him almost
every down and putting pressure on him.
I would have designed more
Rolled out to both sides for him to move him out of the pocket and I
would design more plays for him to pick up the blitzers and just have
him run right into the teeth of the Eagles small secondary.
Culpepper’s
like 6’4 and 267lbs and we need to use him to run more, throw more
outside the pocket and fake the run. Before you know, the Eagles
wouldn’t be blitzing so much. Because they would be taken out of their
game plans completely. Because they would be worrying about what would
Culpepper do next.
