Kelly Kirk
McClayson: Kelly, you have played in Minnesota
racquetball tournaments for many years, what were some of your most
memorable moments and what were some of your most funniest moments?
Kelly Kirk: Most memorable was playing
in women's B semi-final on a Sunday morning- 1981? Those were the
days of 21 point games. Our match was so boring, very long rallies
that would end with the inevitable hinder call, that our referee
fell asleep during the match. I believe it went just shy of two
hours - I lost.
MM: Who do you think was the
greatest and most dominant player to ever come out of the women's
rank? Gould? Adams? McKay? Wright? Others?
KK: Gould. She never got the credit she
deserved for having a dominating serve.

MM: In your opinion, who do you think had the most
impact on the game of racquetball since Joe Sobek invented the game?
KK: Graphite composites.
MM: How did you get
started in racquetball? I remembered you telling me that you wish you
had proper instruction earlier in your development. Is this an area that
we could improve in racquetball to help spark more interest?
KK: We all wish we had
proper instruction when we were younger - in whatever sport it was. But
would we have been receptive to it? Racquetball is a great sport for
young adults who suddenly are no longer active in varsity sports. If
your child is talented, please have him or her playing something else
(for well-roundness)!
I started playing because it looked like
fun. That's not always what people think today when they are exposed to
our sport. I hear comments that our sport looks too fast, too dangerous,
too wild, etc. Do we want players for life or only when they are young?
MM:
Please
tell me alittle about how you became an E-Force representative. What
makes their products better than other company's products? What is
it about E-Force that would make the average racquetballer stands up
and take notice? What has E-Force done to promote and stimulate
interest in racquetball? In your professional opinion, why did you
choose to represent E-Force? Please briefly states three major
reasons why an amateur racquetball player would shell out 160
dollars to buy a top of the line E-Force racquets?
KK: Cost of frames? We are such whiners!
More than twenty years ago, I paid $100 for an Ektelon frame. How
can anyone complain about the price, not to mention quality, of
today's frames? And they all come with a one year warranty - and we
all know most frames break because of player abuse (the equivalent
of running your new car into a tree and then taking the car back to
the dealership for replacement at no cost).
E-Force can be summed up succinctly: E-Force is only racquetball.
They either make a great product or they don't survive. What more
could one ask from a company?
