The understanding of the Straight Line
Principle and mapping out angles for different shots is
enhanced with mental visual maps. This way, you are able to practice
your shot even when you are not on the court physically.
You could
practice while riding a bus, sitting at your desk at work or ignoring
your spouse during a heated argument. Thus, you are improving your
racquetball game 24/7/365 on and off the court! What a terrific concept!
During a rally, your mental visual map and mental frontwall and sidewall
targets allow you to just focus on two moving objects on the court: your
opponent and the speeding ball.
This will give you a tremendous edge
over an opponent who needs to track their wall's targets, you, and the
speeding ball.
The old adage of Patricia Matzke (Club Pro) rings true here: The
walls do not move.
You do not need to look at them because they are the
only constants in racquetball. If you look at the walls while hitting
your shot during a rally melee, the only constant will become your loss
of the rally again and again.
So, go work out your mental racquetball maps, understand the Straight Line Principles,
and learn the angles. Understanding of these concepts will lead you down
the path to winning racquetball.
