Question: My opponent is a lefty player who
stands four feet from the left sidewall and hits these vicious
wallpapered drive serves. How can I return these impossible serves
better?
Answer:
According to USRA rules, your lefty opponent’s racquet may not cross
over the second vertical line. The first line is for double, the second
line after that is call the three feet drive service line. This line
prevents players from hitting wallpapered drives. Your lefty opponent’s
racquet may crossover the imaginary plane of this line if he is hitting
Z-drives or a crosscourt drives, but not a down the line drive along the
left sidewall. This line applies to both sidewalls.
Question:
I am trying to find a
ruling on the use of the free hand on the backside of the racquet. Is it
permitted to place the free hand on the backside of the webbing ? – RD
Answer:
The only rule that we could locate was about not being able to switch hands
during the rally. (i.e. hitting left, then switching to right.) in which you
would lose the rally or serve. The USRA rules would not discount the query as
illegal. However, this action is more commonly known as a tennis
nuisance. Rb is a one-handed sport.
