McClayson's
Drive Service
Checklist
□ Take your time in the service box and visualize
the entire serve, including front wall targets, stroke mechanics and
relocation.
□ Take a step first towards the front wall with
your back foot to start the service momentum and then drop the ball.
□ Remember that the service drop varies by inches.
Because minute errors on the drop translates to errors in ‘foot’ in
the back court.
□ Don’t be tentative on your forehand stroke, just
let it rip and follow through completely low and level and relocate.
□ Practice grunting in your drive service
practices and add it to your game because grunting is a great device
to unleashing your full power and helps with your timing and
accuracy.
□ Bend those knees and get low to the ground to
facilitate a lower service drop and thus a lower and better drive
serve.
□ Lean slightly forward towards the front wall to
generate initial forward momentum.
□ If you are using the straight arm service drop,
remember to drop the ball with the toss arm parallels to the floor.
Because if you are trying to drop the ball lower than your service
stance with your arm angled towards the ground, this will add
unnecessary variation to your toss and thus an inconsistent drive
service.
□ Get your racquet above your shoulders for a
humongous windup, which equals greater power and also let the ball
drops lower from V=0, which equals a lower/harder and better drive.
□ Develop a relaxed focus service mentality and
tell yourself that you are in total control and to take your time.
As for the drop, just extends your toss arm and just drop the ball
without any extraneous hand tossing motion at the end. Just extends
the toss arm, drop the ball, quickly tuck the toss arm, and rip away
with aplomb!
