Explosive Drive Service
Sequence Refined

Refinement: Mentally separate from the ball after the ball toss and use the front foot plant as the key secondary timer to initialize lower body rotation for a massive rip into the ball. A brief lull in action after the ball toss and just before the front foot plant allows for effective lower body weight transfer and a smoother transition from lower body power to the upper body finish.

  1. Starts with both feet on the short line in a crab-like stance. Bounce the ball at least 10 times slowly and visualize the serve in your mind. See the serve from beginning to end.

  2. Toss arm/hand goes out to toss/bounce the ball simultaneously with ERP. Remember to extend the tossing arm for maximum extension and consistency.

  3. Toss/Bounce ball. When ball is bounce/toss, then mentally distance yourself from the ball and get ready to rip it to shreds!

  4. Quickly tuck in toss arm for aerodynamics. Please remember to stay level and low throughout the service.

  5. Plant front foot to start that explosive lower body motion for maximum power, consistency and accuracy. Use the front foot plant as an excellent secondary timer to accurately time racquet and ball contact.

  6. The complete planting of the front foot effectively transfers the devastating power built from the lower body to the upper body.

  7. Upper body unleashes the power from the lower body plus all the major upper body power sources like the torso, stomach muscles, shoulders, arms and a natural wrist snap and a complete follow through.

  8. Push off front foot to quickly reverse direction to relocate to center court with backhand grip, all the while watching your opponent’s return attempts.

  9. Remember to bend those knees to get low to the ball and to tap into those powerful lower body power sources like legs and thighs.

Bonus: Try hitting the ball on its downward trajectory to add consistency in low drive serves that will stay down and off the backwall.
