Lob Serve
Steps
The sequences of the successful lob serve, like the
drive serve is to properly synchronize your service mechanics with the
ball’s trajectory after the toss. That’s the main reason why the toss is
so important in serving.
-
Ball is toss straight down
-
Take a small first step
towards your front wall target
-
Tuck in your toss hand
-
Start racquet rotation
towards contact point
-
Ball continues on its upward
path
-
Racquet head continues at
three fourth powers towards contact point
-
Hips and legs rotate as the
racquet nears the contact point
-
Ball is nearing V=0
-
Hips and legs provide most
of the power and control.
- Hips and legs initiating the motion and you contact
the ball at about chest height as the ball is still rising towards V=0.
Follow through all the way and relocate quickly.
The lob serve is an important weapon to have when you
are tired out at the end of a long match or to inject some variety into
your service game plan or to keep the ball out of the power zone of an
aggressive power player continually smoking your low drives. But to have
this dynamic and tempo changing serve available when you most need it,
you must remember that timing is everything with the lob serves and to
work with gravity for a successful lob.
