Return Fly Drive Serves

The pesky fly drive is serve high and strong to carom deep into the back corner and shoot straight out from the backwall. To tackle the fly serve, anticipate the serve quickly and react swiftly to whichever side it is going. After returning an infinite amount of these drive variants, you will begin to recognize their pattern off the backwall and increase confidence.

Since these serves are higher and take a deeper first bounce, use the following footwork to meet the ball at the second bounce area:

Pivot, take a large step out, larger cross over step, and stride into the ball.

Recognition is vital. The fly drive serve does not have a two bounces pattern like the deadly corner drives. This variant has a deeper first bounce. More time is available to setup if recognized early enough along the serve's flight path.

The fly drive serves could be tougher to return than the two bounces corner drives if  the bounce is deep in the back corner and shoots out wallpapered to the sidewall. Then the best return option may be a ceiling ball.
