Return Hybrid
Overhead Serves
The low
percentage hybrid overhead serve is usually hit with high velocity. It
will most likely carom towards the front wall similar to the fly drive
pattern. Adjust return position closer to the front wall to get a jump
on the serve once it shoots out from the backwall.
The two
main variants are the wallpapered fly drive and the center court plum.
You can easily discern which variant is coming by their front wall
targets. If it is hit far from the sidewall, it will most likely be
similar to the fly drive pattern. If it is hit close to the sidewall, it
will be an ugly hybrid Z-pattern that will carom in center court for a
plum return.
Other
possible variants
could include the ball catching the sidewall/backwall juncture and flies
parallel to the backwall or shoots out to the other side as a hybrid
wrap. Read the ball carefully and accurately. React quickly and adjust
(if necessary) body, footwork and court position to return with the most
highest percentage shot.
