Returning Jams and
Wraps
Jams and wraps are easy to return
once you begin to recognize a pattern. The jam serve usually hits the
sidewall close to the short line and shoots straight into your body.
Take a step back and away from the approaching ball and stride into the
ball with your return if time allows.
The wrap hits the sidewall deeper,
by the dotted line, or deep and wraps around to the side of the court.
After recognizing the wrap pattern, pivot and turn with the ball. Follow
the serve to the other side and return it like a slower fly drive
serves.
Do not turn your back to the wrap
and try to pick it up after it crosses behind you because you might lose
it on its backwall flight path. Turn your entire body and follow the
flight of the ball. Change your grip if the ball is going from the left
sidewall to the right sidewall during the body turn and pivot. Keep your
eyes on the ball and use your peripheral to locate your opponent. Base
on your read, return with the highest percentage shot possible under
these variables.
