Attacking Defense

What actually is an attacking defense?

An attacking defense attacks at every available opportunity and put the most pressure on an opponent to execute. It is a fact of racquetball that after you hit the ball, you can’t control what would happen next, yet you can certainly improve your odds of winning the rally using an attacking defense by:

(1) Being in the best possible coverage position as your goes opponent goes to hit the ball and

(2) Moving quickly and efficiently to the ball.

You opponent may be hitting a high percentage shot, but if you are positioned properly, you will generate the most defensive pressure on the opponent’s game and make it that much tougher for him to score points. This is because you have studied his stroke, anticipated his shot selection, and knowing his capabilities and limitations.

Moreover, you make it easier for yourself to reach more balls and hit more shots from good positions. This will keep your opponent on the defensive and more likely for a weak return for you to finish.
