Attacking Defense
Introduction
During the 2002-3 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-6. The Philadelphia Eagles beat the
Atlanta Falcon 20-6 in Philadelphia.
The Tennessee Titans edged out the
Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime in Nashville, 34-31. The Raiders wore
down the New York Jets by the scores of 30-10 in Oakland. How did they
all do it so efficiently?
Their attacking defenses helped them to grind down the
opposition offenses and provide opportunities for their offenses to
score.
John Madden, former coach for the Raiders and football
commentator, was correct when he said, "Offense gets you to the big
game, but Defense wins Super Bowl!"
An attacking defense means an active
defense that anticipates, reads, and generates tremendous pressure upon
an opponent to execute accurately. This is true in racquetball as well.
