Attacking Defense
Opponents

Using the Attacking Defense against a new opponent
Against a new opponent, try positioning yourself at
about 25 feet after allowing an obvious setup.
Make them prove their kill
consistency. If they can consistently kill the ball at this range, hold
your attacking defensive coverage at this position and be alert in your
court coverage.
If all their shots are left up, learn to lag back a bit
more and adjust your position accordingly.
Do not let the fear of your
opponent’s potential kill shots stretch your defensive coverage too far
forward.
General rule is that you will rarely reach a ball that
bounces twice inside of 15 feet. And you become too vulnerable to passes
or jams the closer you are to the back service line.
When a smart
opponent sees that you like to defend too close to the short line, he
adjusts his shot selection around you with wide angled passes.
