Necessary adjustments
Super Bowl Champion Quarterback
John Elway was a strong leader because he was able to be flexible. He
adjusted to legendary Coach Mike Shanahan’s game plan, call audibles at
the line of scrimmages when the defenses change dramatically, and knows
when it's a good opportunity to exploit the defense's weaker secondary.
When McClayson
plays with top VRB Pro Am Tour juggernauts like Velocity Mike, Lyle
Kath, and Terry Lefty, MM is constantly asking questions and making a
brief list of what is working and what is not working. If TL is blasting
too many splat winners on the backhand side, MM will adjust his lobs
further away from the right sidewall to cut off TL’s splat angle. If VM
is consistently blasting his overhead serves into the corner, MM will
adjust his read and move his return position more forward to cut down
VM’s overhead margin of error and take advantage of the overhead high
trajectory off the backwall.
While MM has not come close to taming these
juggernauts’ fantastic racquetball skills, MM’s constant reads, audibles
and adjustments have kept him in many super fast paced games with these
outstanding racquetballers. This second key means to apply your game
plan and changing what doesn’t work and pouring it on when it does
works.
