How to defeat a superior (any)
opponent
|
- Take your time on your serves and
returns. Bounce the ball multiple times on your service and raise
your racquet on the returns to slow down your opponent’s pace.
- Take all of your allotted
time outs to pace yourself and your opponent. Don’t play your
opponent’s frantic pace, make them play racquetball one point at a
time and they may become antsy and leave up a couple of setups!
Think glacial pace a la the tennis great Ivan Lendl.
When Lendl was down in a match at Wimbledon, he would slow down the
pace of the game even more by wiping his face with a towel and
walking very slowly between rallies and thus conserving energy and
forcing his opponent to play his glacial pace. His glacial pace
method brought him multiple English championships. It works, try it!
- Play your game and your pace. Avoid playing your
opponent’s game and style.
- Always remember to play high percentage
racquetball. Don’t change your game just because a fast/tall player
like Mike Larson gets to almost everything, move him with high
percentage shots and force him to hit the spectacular shots to beat
you one point at a time. Remember that your opponent is human and to
move him and continue to play high percentage deep ball and finish
front court setups.
- Maintain a Relaxed Focus Calm at all times and
work hard on each and every rally.
- Get to everything that is not a rolled out and
make your opponent earn each and every point with pints and pints of
their own sweat.
