How to defeat a superior (any) opponent

  1. Don’t overestimate any opponent. Treat every opponent basically the same in terms of playing high percentage RB: Move them deep and on the run if possible.

  2. Avoid falling into the negative Nemesis complex though pattern, where you think you can’t beat someone because they have beaten you consecutive times and somehow they are superior or got your number, it’s all psychological BS. Past results are not relevant and indicative of current results, play Present RB!

  3. Always relocate and set your feet in defense and cover the Pass. Avoid having happy shuffling feet in coverage and covering the pinch. Let your opponent have the occasional spectacular pinch front court winners (less than 10% of the time) and cover the rest of his better passes (90% of the time).

  4. Don’t ever give up on any ball, force your opponent to roll it out or hit high percentage shots to beat you. Keep digging and grinding away until you can hit a high percentage shot to end a rally. Work hard and run down every gettable ball!

  5. Mix it up: mix up your service with lobs and drives. Mix up your shot selection during a rally with cross court passes, down the line passes and pinches to keep your opponent honest in your coverage.

  6. Utilizes the Pass-Pinch and Pinch-Pass tactics to move your opponents around: Pass to keep your opponent deep and then finish him/her off with a front court pinch winner. Pinch to draw your opponent beyond the short line and hit a solid pass to beat them and/or force them deep and on the run.

  7. Take all your time outs and make the necessary adjustments. Ask yourself what is working and what is not working and make the necessary adjustments. For example, your right drives are kicking off the right sidewall and caroming into center court as a plum, then adjust and move your front wall target closer to the left sidewall to angled the ball into the right corner and away from the right sidewall.
