Relocation to Center Court
Practice:
Go
into a court by yourself and hit different shots from deep court and
practice relocating quickly with big steps to center court. Practice
tracking the ball while relocating with rapid foot speed, set your feet
and be down and ready for your opponent’s shot.
Mental awareness:
Change
your mentality from one of just plain old relocation to center court to
one of more urgency and importance! Tell yourself after you hit your
shot, “Fire! Fire! Fire! Move! Move! Move! Get to safety in center
court!” or tell yourself, “Enemy planes overhead! Move! Move! Move to
the center court bunker to cover your enemy’s bombs!
You not
only need to work on changing your foot work to include bigger steps,
but you need to change your mentality to one of more urgency that
borders on the psychotic. You need to psyche yourself up and tells
yourself over and over, “I need to relocate to center court after each
and every shot or my family won’t eat tonight!”
Or you can
pretend that you are a robot and pretend that the center court area is
where you plug in to recharge after each of your shot. Or pretend that
you are a bar of iron and center court is a gigantic magnet that pulls
you back after each of your shot.
It does not
matter how you choose to motivate yourself to relocate to center court.
Use whatever works to get yourself relocated quickly to center court or
the game is half over with your opponent smirking in the front court.
