Screening

What are possible alternative if you find yourself momentarily caught on the sidewall? Swain instructs us to move between the ball and the opponent and re-center. He comments that this screening technique will not be considered favorable for many players, but it can legally accomplish if it is done early within the rally and your opponent has sufficient time to view the ball.

Another screen is the screen on the ceiling ball. It is popular for many players to scuttle along the back wall and then re-center after hitting a ceiling ball. Swain recommends a quicker route that also effectively screens the opponent. This legal screen takes a direct and diagonal route to center court.

In my own experiences, I realized that lefties have a legal screen when serving cross court to a righty. Using the same premise, I use my backhand stroke and serve cross court to a righty just like a left would with their forehand. Believe me, this service offers variation and deception if added to your service arsenal.
