Shading

Manino and Davis instructs us to look beyond the jumping method and try the shading technique. Although jumping may provide the illusion of being a pro, it also decreased your margin of errors. Jumping requires crucial timing for elevation and landing in order to hit a successful return. If the opponent fakes and you mistimed your jump, then avoidable hinder may be called on you. Manino offers shading to the forehand side because the forehand stroke has longer reach and is predominantly the stronger stroke for many players. Shading means that if your opponent has a setup in deep middle court, your would step towards the left wall and give them just enough room to hit his shots; while at the same time, you stay grounded to increase your return options and rally wins.
