Steps to hitting effective shots off
ceiling ball
setup
5. From reading and anticipating the ball’s variables so far, ask yourself,
"From these variables, will the ball come off the backwall?" Recognize the
ceiling backwall setup shot pattern.
6. As you read and anticipate the ball’s variables and its contact points,
run/get quickly into position slightly behind what you estimate to be the
ball’s second bounce zone. As you get into position quickly, make sure to
stay away from the sidewall and the ball, and use your peripheral to
determine opponent’s position and free hand to locate backwall.
7. As you get quickly into position, remember it’s still too early to cock
the racquet, it is very tough to run into position with a cocked racquet.
You only ERP when you get into position. Once you are in position and have
ERP, then you can adjust with your feet, do not adjust with your racquet or
arm.
8. Once you are in position, continue to stay behind the ball, adjust with
the feet for any freak bounces, stay away from the ball and the sidewall, ERP, wait for the ball to drop below the knees, and stride into the ball
with a half step or one step for effective transfer of body behind ball, it
doesn’t take multiple steps for effective weight transfer. In any case, you
don’t have time for this. Pick a high percentage shot based on the ball’s
variables, your court position, and your opponent’s court position and tee
off with maximum power and intensity, grunt!
