Forehand Grip

Use the eastern forehand grip by placing the non-hitting hand on the throat of the racquet with the racquet head lengthwise, in a vertical position to the floor, and reach down and shake hands with the grip.

The butt of the racquet is even with the base of your hand, and the "V" formed between the thumb and the index finger runs down through the top flat section of the handle. The fingers are usually together around the handle, although you may prefer to spread the index finger.

The forehand grip can also be achieve by placing the hand, palm down, against the racquet face, which is held vertical to the ground, and then sliding the hand down the throat to the handle to grip the handle. Remember to grip the racquet firmly but not tightly. It should feel like a comfortable extension of your hand.

Common Grip Errors

  1. Fist Grip: no trigger finger control.
  2. Eagle Claw: too low on the handle.
  3. Stranglehold: too high on the handle.
  4. Index-Finger extension: a definite no-no with index finger pointing to the string beds.
