Forehand Positioning
First, getting into the basic hitting
position requires that you should face a sidewall. Facing the sidewall
is important because it is the foundation for the rest of the basic
hitting positions. Your shoulders are parallel to the sidewall.
While
you are facing the sidewall, you should be crouching slightly with knees
bent and a slightly flexed abdominal area. Bending and flexing allows
you to get lower to the ball and helps you to keep the ball lower on the
front wall.
Second, preparing a full backswing with the racquet
cocked well behind your head, bend the elbow of the hitting arm about 90
degrees in the backswing position, the racquet head is parallel to the
front wall, the non-hitting arm is relaxed and pointed back during the
backswing, and near the racquet head.
The proper power backswing
position causes the upper body to rotate so that the shoulders become
parallel to the backwall. Feet should be in a comfortable stance and be
slightly more than shoulder width apart.
