What is your
racquetball style?

The Bull ..... He is the charismatic power player who loves to blast everything in sight to smithereens. The ways to play a bull is to move the ball out of the power zone to force him to shoot chest and shoulder high shots. Because from this height, the bull’s power tends to work against him because the ball will hit the front wall at such an acute angle that it pop up for a setup. Shots to play against the bull are the Ceiling shot, Lob serves, Garbage serves, and wide angled pass. Bulls like fast paced, slam bang, and jet powered game in order to overpower their unsuspecting victims. So to slow down the pace of the game, try taking your time before putting the ball in play like taking the maximum allowable 10 seconds for your service and return. Think about your shot before you hit it. Slow it down and you will make the bull antsy.

The Rabbit ..... loves to run and is most comfortable in an off balanced position where he has to chase down the ball. This player usually doesn’t have a lot of shots. In your game plan against the rabbit, you should expect the rabbit to retrieve every ball. The rabbit tend to hit most effectively shots on the run. They’ve been in that situation so much that they’ve gotten quite good at hitting while retrieving. The ways to play a rabbit is to use the ceiling shot exclusively. That way the rabbit is stuck in the back corner. No one’s doing much running and it becomes a game of patience and intellect, at which, as a rule, the rabbit does not excel. So by all means, hit the ball to the rabbit and you’ll find he does less running and even less scoring.

The Shootist ..... is a shotmaker who usually lacks power but is constantly going for the bottom board. You can’t be too careful against a player like that. There are three ways to beat the shootist: 1.) Give them the worst possible percentage shot to shoot and then take good center court positioning and cover,  2. Most shootists are weaker on their backhand, so force him to kill with the backhand rather than his forehand, 3. Serve more conservatively, rather than aggressively, because a shootist is a master at using your power by using a blocking stroke. Give him a lot of deep high lobs, garbage lobs, medium paced drives to the backhand corners, ceiling to their backhand, overhead drive into the body, and wide angled passes.

The Crowder ..... is the player who stays so close that he throws off the rhythm of your swing. However, most crowders will not get so close as to become subject to a waffle face. There are two main ways to deal with a crowder: 1. Hit the ball between the crowder and the ball, using your own body to block the crowder’s vision momentarily as you hit the ball, so his closeness has worked to his disadvantage. The crowder can’t go around you and the ref can’t call a hinder because the inopportune position is the crowder’s own fault. 2. Warn the crowder politely that he is cramping your full swing and if this is not heeded, hit him somewhere that won’t cause permanent damage.
